Métis Music & Dance

Acuhko Simowuk Collective is a group of multidisciplinary Metis artists whose work is centered in the traditional and contemporary knowledges of Metis music, dance, and ways of gathering. Always aiming to carry the past and future in tandem, Achuhko Simowuk critically examines Metis tradition with the goal to create space for uninhibited expressions of Indigenous womanhood and Indigiqueer identities.

With Acuhko Simowuk , dancers and co-creators Jeanette Kotowich, Justin Ducharme, Madelaine McCallum, Evan Ducharme , and musician Kathleen Nisbet invite the audience to a reimagining of a social gathering; one that exists in the space between the past and the continuum. Achuhko Simowuk calls upon the known and unknown Ancestors, as well as each other, in order to subvert settler colonial constructs of family, gender, and linear time to honour all of the kin who’ve held us up throughout the history of the Metis people.
