The Inuvik Drummers and Dancers was created back in 1989 by the younger generation of adult Inuvialuit who wanted to bring drum dancing into their lives. Inspiration came from elders of the original Mackenzie Delta Drummers and Dancers, with their guidance and close instruction of Billy Day the Inuvik Drummers and Dancers was formed. The oral traditions could now be passed down through song and dance which would help in revitalizing the Inuvialuk language. The dances range from animal imitations, to telling stories through song and dance of hunting/trapping, songs just for fun and exercise, to everyday life of a hard working Inuvialuk. The drum would imitate the sound of a heartbeat, still beating strong from our past ancestors. Inuvialuit drum dancing is a cultural story to share with all to enjoy and learn of our culture.
