Tetlit Gwich’in from Fort McPherson NT. In my early teens I beaded my first belt on a home-made loom made of willow, 2pieces of card board, and white thread. Over the years I learned to bead and created beaded cardholders, cellphone cases, hair pieces, broaches, necklaces, pins, bracelets, earrings, rings, miniature drums, assorted feathers, etc. These beaded pieces are put together with traditional hide, porcupine quills, seal fur, silver berries, and birch bark. I am also learning to carve from caribou antlers I create some beautiful earrings and pendants. My main project is free hand beading where I create imaginary colorful flowers on Melton and traditional hide. I’ve dedicated years to my traditional art. I create complex designs while using traditional materials and technique. I am committed to sharing my cultural knowledge with others so that it can be passed on to future generations.
