Shandal Sam is a 28-year-old emerging Indigenous Beading Artist. She belongs to the Crow Clan of the Northern Tutchone people of the Selkirk First Nation. She first started her beading journey in 2016. She first started with earrings using brick stitch method and continued to use this method until 2020. At this time, she decided to take her beading journey to the next level. She advanced her beadwork by incorporating flat stich, tufting, embroidery, and quillwork. Shandal enjoys beading as it connects her with her culture and her community. She has hosted workshops in her hometown of Pelly Crossing and has participated in The Bead, Hide & Fur Symposium where she has met other local artists. She has always shared a passion on helping those who want or wanted to start their beading journey. This is the first time she has applied to be an artist to a festival. She is excited about the opportunity to network with other artists and participate in workshops to further advance her artwork
