Amber Baker is proud to be a Northern Tutchone and Tlingit woman coming from The Selkirk First Nations of Pelly Crossing, Yukon Territory.
Six years ago, Amber was inspired by the beauty around her, and wanted to use her creative mindset into making beautiful beaded art. Coming from a long line of knowledge holders, teachers, artists, hand games players and dancers, Making beautiful beadwork for people makes her so happy and proud to see them feel pride in their culture and where they come from. She mainly makes beaded jewelry but has been learning how to eventually make full traditional outfits.
In the last couple of years, she has been inspired to teach people about beading and their culture, and has been hosting workshops in her home community and communities throughout the Yukon. Recently, she became the president for the Selkirk Spirit Dancers, and is excited to be able to support the next generation of dancers.
Amber thanks her family and friends, esp her sister Kaylyn and Auntie Dorothy for supporting and guiding her through her artist journey and what it means to be a Tutchone and Tlingit woman.
