Storytelling

Join Gwaandak Theatre for our annual Indigenous Summer Play Readings! This year, in a celebration of generational excellence, we are proud to be presenting two works written by Yukon First Nations playwrights: Constellation by Tyra Ashauntie (Selkirk First Nation) and Justice by Leonard Linkater (Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation). Over the course of June and July, these readings will tour campgrounds and special events across the Yukon and - for the first time - be presented at Inuvik, NWT! This annual tour creates opportunities for emerging theatre artists, promotes stronger community connections, and showcases both new and returning Indigenous scripts to local audiences. Make sure you experience these live play readings while we are in your area! Indigenous Summer Play Readings is funded by The Government of Yukon, Canada Council for the Arts, and The City of Whitehorse. Gwaandak Theatre is the Yukon’s only Indigenous-centred professional theatre company. Our stories question, honour, and celebrate. They explore themes around decolonization, cultural identity, social justice, underrepresented voices and human rights.
